Dungeon Crawler Carl The Desperado club shirt
My friend Mark, the one who’s always got his nose buried in a book, finally clued me in on this whole “Dungeon Crawler Carl” thing. I’d heard whispers, mostly from the gaming group, about some crazy cat and a dungeon, but I hadn’t paid much attention. You know how it is, sometimes the online world just washes over you, and you pick up bits and pieces without really registering them. Anyway, Mark was practically vibrating with excitement. He’d gone and gotten himself a -DCC- -Desperado Club- shirt – a rather loud, graphic tee with some sort of demonic-looking kitty on it. I swear, the thing practically screamed “nerd alert!” But seeing his unadulterated joy, I had to be a little curious.

So, he started explaining it, all this talk of AI overlords, reality TV gone horribly wrong, and a cat named Carl fighting for survival. Initially, I was skeptical. I’m more of a historical fiction kind of gal. Dragons and magic haven’t really captured my imagination since I was a teenager. But Mark, he’s got a way of drawing you in. He painted a picture of this cat, all sharp claws and even sharper wit, and the sheer audacity of the whole setup got me. He described the world, the grotesque creatures, and the increasingly ridiculous challenges Carl faced, and honestly, the whole thing sounded bonkers enough to be intriguing. I’m usually not one for sci-fi, but I think the humor got me.

The thing is, it wasn’t just the plot that hooked him, and now, me, as well. He spoke with such relish about the prose, the pacing, the way the author just -got- the ridiculousness of it all. He kept quoting lines, these little snippets of dialogue that made me actually chuckle. One in particular, I think it went, “Well, sh-t.” when Carl got into some sort of weird situation, I think involving a talking sandwich? It was absurd, but somehow also relatable. It felt like something I might say myself, in a particularly frustrating moment. I have to admit, I’m starting to think about getting a shirt.

Great shirt, great fit! Is more of an orangey gold in color. Definitely not the yellow shown.
I will never reveal the Wu-Tang secret.
