Commonwealth Cup Virginia Cavaliers vs Virginia Tech Hokie Champions shirt
Okay, here we go, scribbling down some thoughts about the upcoming game… I still remember that frigid afternoon back in 2007, when I was huddled up in Scott Stadium, just barely able to feel my toes, watching the Virginia Cavaliers go head-to-head with the Virginia Tech Hokies. The air crackled with a sort of nervous energy, even though the result was ultimately a disappointment for us. I was practically bouncing from foot to foot, trying to stay warm, as the band played and the crowd roared – the sheer volume of noise was just something else. It’s funny how those specific sensory details stick with you, more than the plays themselves sometimes.

That rivalry, though, it’s not just about the game itself, right? It’s woven into the very fabric of life in the state, the conversations you overhear at the grocery store, the playful trash-talking between friends and colleagues. My neighbor, bless his ass, is a die-hard Hokie, and for weeks leading up to the game, his porch gets decorated with all sorts of maroon and orange paraphernalia. It’s all in good fun, mostly. He usually tries to sneak a peek at my garden to see if I am planting anything in a “Cavalier” color.

This year, the Commonwealth Cup Virginia Cavaliers vs Virginia Tech Hokie Champions shirt will be a big deal in our house, obviously. My daughter got a shirt from her uncle last year, a pretty cool one with both team’s logos incorporated, but it’s a bit too big for her. I’m thinking about finding a local store and getting a matching one for me and one for her. I’m actually a bit embarrassed to admit that my jersey from college got a little too snug after I stopped working out, so the new shirt is a must.

Looks well made, and true to size. I’m giving this as a gift to my loving boyfriend for Christmas. I’m sure he’ll dig it. It fits me, so I know it will fit him.
