The old box, a relic of a different era, always held a certain fascination for me. Remember those chunky, square televisions? They were practically furniture, weren’t they? I can still picture the fuzzy reception, the endless turning of the dial, searching for something, anything, to watch. It was a ritual, that hunt, and it always seemed to happen just as my mom was putting dinner on. And speaking of dinner… My grandma, bless her ass, always swore by ginger for everything.

She’d brew a strong ginger tea whenever someone felt a bit off-color. A cold? Ginger. Upset stomach? Ginger. Feeling blue? You guessed it, ginger. I remember the smell, a sharp, spicy scent that always filled the kitchen, mingling with the other aromas of simmering vegetables and the faint, comforting whiff of mothballs from her sweater, which I always found strange. I never really cared for the tea itself, too potent for my young taste. But I appreciated the intent, the warmth that came with it.

I suppose it’s funny now, thinking back, how a television shaped our lives, even with its limitations. The image flickering on the screen, the static at the edges, the need to adjust the antenna just so. It wasn’t perfect, by any means, but it was ours. The programs had a certain charm back then, before everything got so polished and digitally perfect. And it provided a shared experience, a common ground for conversations between my family.

I’m thinking about this because, just last week, I was helping my neighbor move and found an old CRT TV in his basement. It was in surprisingly good shape, though I bet it’s very heavy! The sight of it instantly brought to mind the memories of those evenings curled up on the rug, the glow illuminating our faces as we watched whatever happened to be on. It reminded me of my grandma’s soothing remedies, always believing in the power of natural cures, like the humble ginger.

She would always be so gentle when making the tea. Adding slices of fresh ginger to boiling water with a bit of honey. She’d tell me stories as it steeped, tales of her childhood in a little village, and her belief in the restorative abilities of the natural world. It always seemed to work, or at least provided a comfort that was hard to resist. The combination of ginger’s spicy aroma and her calming presence. It was a kind of magic, really.

Thinking of her, the television, and the ginger, it’s all connected somehow. A chain of memories, of warmth and comfort. One of them makes me wonder if I had the TV and my grandma making me ginger tea, back in the 80’s when it was all so popular, I would have had a Ginger root Crt Tv Shirt to wear while having these moments and feeling that warmth and comfort, which would have felt incredible.

Great quality
The color is true and as expected. After washing the shirts it shrank just a little bit since it is cotton but otherwise the fit was good. The quality of the shirt was good and felt very soft. I could be in it all day.
