Ice Cold Hip Hop Polar Bear Breakdance Christmas shirt
The biting wind whipped at my cheeks that afternoon, the kind of cold that seemed to seep into your bones, and I remember thinking, “Wow, even the air feels frozen.” It was a few weeks before Christmas, and the streetlights were already casting that warm, hazy glow onto the glistening sidewalks. I was heading to a friend’s place for a pre-holiday get-together, a low-key affair with homemade cookies and maybe a terrible, but beloved, Christmas movie. The image of a cheesy holiday flick popped into my head, and I started chuckling to myself as I hurried along, my breath clouding the air.

As I walked, I kept picturing my cousin, Leo. He’d always been the one in our family who embraced the ridiculous, and I knew he’d love the ridiculous idea that suddenly popped into my head, that maybe the polar bears were having their own festive celebration this time of year. Specifically, I imagined this ice cold, frosty gathering. It started with the vision of an enormous, slightly disheveled polar bear, decked out in a slightly too-small Santa hat, who was absolutely -killing- it on the dance floor.

He would be breakdancing. I could practically hear the boom of a bass-heavy hip-hop track echoing across the icy tundra. It would have to be an underground club, carved right into the ass of the glacial ice. The visual was vivid, this giant bear pulling off some incredible head spins and windmills, all the while radiating pure joy. The entire party was a blur of colorful lights reflected against the pristine white. I knew the rest of the crew would be there too.

My mind kept expanding on the scene; friends in similar, festive outfits would be bobbing their heads and cheering him on. The details kept evolving: maybe there’d be fish-shaped ice sculptures and hot cocoa being served to keep the dancers warm. It had the making of the best, most unique holiday party ever, where everyone was welcome, regardless of whether they could actually dance. This was a concept I wanted to explore further.

Then I considered adding some of the polar bear’s friends to this Ice Cold Hip Hop Polar Bear Breakdance Christmas extravaganza. Other animals, like a sly arctic fox DJing the party, and some energetic penguins showing off their own moves on the dance floor. The more I thought about it, the better the scene became. I suddenly wanted to capture all of it in a drawing or painting, maybe even a goofy children’s book.

The whole thing struck me as being weirdly heartwarming. The idea of this unlikely holiday scene, a celebration of joy and community in the face of the icy cold. The warmth and energy of the music and dance, juxtaposed with the stark, frozen landscape, was quite a picture. By the time I reached my friend’s house, I was practically buzzing with the thought.

Size seems the same as the old one I bought a few years ago, fits the same, though the tag is different. Fabric seems a little thinner, but not by much- I might not have noticed if I wasn’t looking for it. Black one says 100% cotton on the tag.
