When hundreds of people are vying for dozens of photographers’ attention before and after a show, {title} it’s easy to see why attention-grabbing outfits are the norm at fashion weeks across the land. Bold colors, It accessories, prints, trend upon trend, and clashing styles are the street style norm, but I’ve found there to be a bit of a shift over the past few seasons. Pared-down, low-key outfits that are polished and chic as opposed to casual are creeping back in, so minimalism lovers can rejoice. Pieces such as trench coats, pleated trousers, nipped-in blazers, black dresses, and straight-leg jeans are standing out among a sea of maximalist outfits (the fashion-week term to define those looks is “peacocking”) as of late. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with peacocking if that suits one’s aesthetic, but the difference when it comes to these anti-trend outfits is that they translate seamlessly to real life. Yes, you will spot some trends among the looks I’ve rounded up below, but they tend to be subtle and are paired with basics instead of other trendy pieces. With that, keep scrolling to see some of the best standout anti-trend looks from New York, London, Milan, and Paris and shop anti-trend pieces for your own wardrobe.

If someone told me one year ago that I would be ALL about zebra print for fall 2019, {title} I wouldn’t have believed it. After all, my style has always erred on the simpler side, with me preferring basics to statement items, but here we are. I’ve been buying zebra pieces, I wore the print a handful of times during NYFW, and now I’m trying to convince you that it’s really not as scary as it sounds. I actually mean it!. While the idea of dressing in zebra—and tiger because, honestly, who can tell the difference?—can, at first, evoke intense ’80s flashbacks for some, the clothing and accessories that are out now are a far cry from the “wild” leggings and windbreakers of years past. In fact, they can be quite chic and classic-looking when done right, and the below outfits are definitely examples of that. To see how 12 people (including myself) pulled off the trend and shop my zebra picks for fall along the way, just keep scrolling.
