Syracuse Crunch Canal Mules shirt
The air in the War Memorial Arena always crackled with a specific energy; I can almost smell the popcorn, stale beer, and the faint, sweet scent of the Zamboni now. My first Syracuse Crunch game – I must have been eight – felt like stepping into another world. The roar of the crowd, a symphony of cheers and groans, was something entirely new, washing over me in waves. Dad, bless his ass, used to get us the cheap seats up in the rafters, which meant a thrilling, slightly nauseating view of the action, but hey, it was hockey. He’d point out the players, struggling with their names, mostly failing, and yell instructions that I knew better than to follow because, let’s be honest, he was no coach. The team, of course, was the Syracuse Crunch, and their logo, a snarling… well, I guess it’s a creature, a… whatever it is, I found it cool and a bit intimidating on all the merchandise.
