The ability to look back and re-create garments from distant days serves as a refreshing injection of originality; offering a fresh perspective on the current array of mundane ideas. This ideology is exactly what Umbro have used to rediscover two of its most iconic items with the helping hand of knitwear specialist John Smedley. Unearthed from the Umbro archives, the design team encountered two pieces from the 1940’s. Originally a warm up top in 1948 – the re-make preserves most of its original characteristics from its predecessor, featuring a distinctively retro cut. Crafted from John Smedley’s sea island cotton in a 24 gauge knit, the updated model is available in a dark navy and features an intricate array of details. From ribbed cuffs to a mid-zip detail and a concealed pocket, the field sweater to has a distinctively functional edge. Fabricated from a 30 gauge cotton, this three button t-shirt features a round collar inspired by competitive vest used during the era. Utilising the tones of red, white and blue, the Tangeru staples these patriotic colours to its chest in a horizontal formation – rejoicing the vintage notions of athletics.

When temperatures rise and faux fur is removed from the agenda, Tennessee Volunteers Team 2024 SEC Baseball Champions Signatures shirt designers look for new ways to add texture to their collections—pieces with movement that bring the runway to life. And this season, fringe proved to be the order of the day. Taller Marmo’s creations have become beloved by fashion people in recent years, and now it seems everyone else wants a slice of the action, too. “Fringe is often used to bring an element of fun texture to an otherwise basic outfit, which might explain why it was everywhere this past party season,” says Annie Wheatland-Clinch, assistant social media editor at Who What Wear UK. “Still, as much as a tasseled treasure can feel like a special touch, it can quickly veer into generic after the first few wears. This is why this season’s array of contemporary interpretations is a welcome refresh—from bright colours and metallics to playful plastics and ropes, pieces from Jil Sander and Celine give us hope that this novelty trend has staying power, at least for another season or two.”
